FLOW With the Weapon
Why do we want to develop our coordination and
flow ?
Lets take a look at both of these natural attributes
and find out why we need to develop them.
COORDINATION the meaning is:
A coordinating or being coordinated. The state or
relation of being coordinated;
Harmonious adjustment or action, as of muscles in
producing complex movements.
In escence, coordination literally means
"The harmonious functioning of interrelated
muscles, organs bones, and nerves. "
Coordination in combat terms means to be able to
move with ease in any direction, process incredable
balance, body mechanic (body feel) and good form.
The well-coordinated fighter does everything
smoothly and gracefully. He seems to glide in and
out of distance with a minimum of effort and a
maximum of deception. His timing is usually good
because his own movements are so rhythmical
they tend to establish complementrary rhythm on
the part of his opponent, a rhythm he can break to
his own advantage because of his perfect control
of his own muscles.
Tools for developing Coordination :
- Jump roping
- Focus gloves
- Single stick
- Double stick
It takes a certain level of coordination to work
sticks, knives, staffs, double sticks and so on.
It is five times greater then anything empty hand.
Since coordination is universal, when we retrun
back to empty hands, we are five times more
coordinated.
Now lets look at flow: To be able to move as liquid
does; move in a stream, like water; to move in a
way suggestive of a liquid; stream; to move gently,
smoothly, and easily; glide; to have smooth and
pleasing continuity; a continuous production.
In escence, It is the ability to move without
hesitation; every ending point never ends;
It is the consistant continuity of a many movements
combined into one motion.
Flow in combat terms means to be able to
continuously move in any direction starting from
long range to close quarter range destorying any
obstruction that may stop the movement.
Although Rythem plays a key factor in the delivery,
broken Rythem must be used to employ the realism
of the flow.
